TEACHING AND INSTRUCTING:
On May 1, 2012, Byron Duerksen was invited to be an instructor at the ASHI InspectionWorld Conference in Las Vegas in January, where he will teach home inspectors from around the world how to Inspect Foreclosures.  This will be an accredited course for continuing education, and videotaped for later use as a DVD.  Certified in the States of Washington, Oregon, Nevada and California to teach courses on:  Inspecting Foreclosures, Mobile Homes versus Modulars, and Plumbing Issues.

EXPERIENCE:
On June 16, 2011, I was honored with the most prestigious award in the home inspection industry, the ACI, a distinction that only I hold in Lake or Mendocino County.  This is the only Certified Home Inspector program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.  The NCCA evaluates parent associations for viability and integrity along with their certification programs for fairness, reliability and means for recertification.  No other home inspection association has met this level of scrutiny or has the ability to issue this level of certification. As a result of their consistently high standards, the American Society of Home Inspectors is the only home inspection organization recognized by NCCA.

Years ago, I passed the most rigorous home inspector examination by an independent organization, E B P H I, which exists to establish the standard of competence in home inspectors and to enhance consumer confidence in home inspection professionals.  That is why this organization was chosen by many state agenices
for licensing their home inspectors.  I am the only home inspector in Lake or Mendocino who holds this certification.

Home Inspecting is my full time job and has been since 2002.  I received my certification as a home inspector from three national home inspection associations as well as one state organization and I maintain my certification with constant continuing education.  I have been serving on the Board of Directors of the California Real Estate Inspection Association since 2009 and served on the Board of American Institute of Inspectors for several years.

Inspection experience is far more critical and involved than any other type of experience, including construction.

Because of my involvement in the home inspection industry as a whole, serving on the boards of two home inspection organizations, I believe I have a much broader perspective regarding home inspections and inspectors.

I built my first house when I was 10 years old.  It took me two years.  My father helped.  Although there were many sizes and qualities of adobe bricks available back then, the very best ones we purchased in Folsom, California.  The interior walls were also adobe brick but much smaller in size.  I even roofed the house with huge cedar shingles.  My mother helped by soaking them so they wouldn't crack.  That house was energy efficient long before most people had ever heard that phrase.  The house is on East Kettleman Lane in Lodi and if I ever get back there I will take a picture and add it to this website.

I have been inspecting homes in Napa, Calistoga, Cloverdale, Kelseyville, Lakeport, St. Helena, Healdsburg, Ukiah and Hidden Valley Lake for a decade.  With over forty years of experience in construction, building trades, real estate development and real estate sales along with my home inspecting, I offer an objective, unbiased professional opinion based on my vast experience, certifications and continuing education in the home inspection field.
