MARIJUANA SOMETIMES CALLED MARY JANE

Living in an area that is known for its large volume of Pot growing and use, I have inspected many homes that had some form of "A GROW" or obviously had in the recent past. Lately, the topic and its effects on a home and future occupants has been a heavily discussed issue on the American Institute of Inspectors 24/7 hotline. It is not my intent to get involved in the fray of various opinions and actions taken by the public, law enforcement, or other inspectors, but rather to merely report facts as we in the inspection world and the labs who send us their reports reveal when presented with a speciman. Although some inspectors report their findings to law enforcement, I never have and do not foresee doing so. I do however report major damage findings to the potential buyer and their Realtor.

Larry Stamp, former president of American Institute of Inspectors, has nearly completed a book he is writing called "What if Houses Could Talk?" Knowing Larry as I do, it should be an excellent and interesting book. He has 3 chapters to go. He made the following information available to me to put in a blog on my web-site.

Pot growing operations create a tremendous amount
of humidity which combines with whatever chemicals
and fertilizers are being used to create a brownish exudate.

Because of the clandestine nature of the operation and
the way the house is sealed up, all that exudate goes into
the walls, ceilings and floors. Eventually it starts to leak out.
